Gold
Hill NC Real Estate
Gold Hill NC is a charming, small town in
Southeastern Rowan County, very close to the
Cabarrus County line. Situated in the Yadkin
River valley, Gold Hill is served by Old Beatty
Ford Rd, US Hwy 52 and St. Stephens Church Road.
Gold Hill NC is perhaps best known in the state
for being the town named after the legendary
gold mine in the area. In fact, the Gold Hill
Mine is still a very popular attraction for the
town.
Established in 1843, the Gold Mine played a very
important part in the economy and life of Gold
Hill’s first inhabitants. Gold was discovered in
Gold Hill in 1824, just a short time after the
first discovery of gold was made in the US
(1799), just a short drive away in Concord NC.
Mining ended after the initial discovery in the
early part of the 1900’s, however resumed again
for a period in the 1950’s. Today, tourists can
visit the historic mine that played such an
important part in this small community’s start
and tour the many buildings and parts of the
mine that have been preserved.
Gold Hill has always been a small community and
today that tradition continues with a small
population of about 10,015 people according to
the 2000 census. The Gold Hill Township includes
the smaller areas of Rockwell and parts of
Granite Quarry. The people who live here are
proud of the town’s history and thrive on
maintaining much of those same traditions.
Residents and people moving to the area relish
the idea of living the small town, rural life,
far away from the “big city." However Gold Hill
NC has a perfect location near some of the
larger metro areas in Cabarrus County, therefore
residents still enjoy the amenities associated
with a larger place.
